Best Practices Conducting a Site Survey

We at System Surveyor work with many users in our community. Along the way, we gather valuable information about how the platform is used. Please use this document as a Best Practices guideline to help you build your own Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for conducting a Site Survey.

System Surveyor Web:

  1. Import a floor plan via the start new Survey button and select the method with which you’d like to import your floor plan.
  2. Crop and set your scale for your floor plan. (make sure your scale is accurate as it will be used for Area of Coverage (AOC) for both cameras and sensors. The scale does not need to be set if you used Google maps to import your floorplan), it will automatically scale the image.
  3. Begin placing your Element icons on the Survey, save often and frequently (Anything can happen so saving can prevent loss of work).
  4. Once finished with Survey, save and you are all set. Release the Survey if someone else in your company will need to make edits.

System Surveyor Tablet app:

  1. If possible, import floorplan before heading out to the site. If that is not possible, create the Survey once you get to the site and select the method with which you would like to create your floor plan.
  2. Crop and set your scale for your floor plan. (make sure the scale is as accurate as possible as it will be used for the Area of Coverage (AOC) for both cameras and sensors. If you used Google maps to import your floor plan, it is not needed to set the scale as Google will automate the scale.
  3. Once you are ready to place your Elements on your Survey, make sure you are not connected to the Internet at all, best to turn off Wi-Fi for your device as well as the cellular data if your tablet has those capabilities. Place Elements on floorplan while offline saving often to ensure no data loss. (Note: saving after taking a photo only saves the photo, you will still need to save the survey itself.)
  4. Once you are finished save one final time. Be sure to sync your survey to the web once you can connect to stable Wi-Fi. Once the survey is synced, release the Survey allowing other users to claim the Survey to make edits.
